i never wanted a big house, a fancy car, expensive

i never wanted a big house,
a fancy car,
expensive clothes and escape vacations,
just to keep up w the Joneses.
i wanted the man who asked if i’d stick with him,
off dusty trails where the ponies were.
a full house,
full hands,
a yet fuller heart.
simple days,
simple moments,
spent together.
these things that i had wanted,
these things i so cherish,
i have found h e r e. 🌾

our 3rd annual galentine’s day 💕 and even though it was a simple one, it was the best one yet.
i realized today that we’ll only have a limited number more of these before they’re not all living at home. sometimes i take time for granted. doing all i can to take in each and every bit of these days.

last night i decided to reinstate “Hygge Wednesd

last night i decided to reinstate “Hygge Wednesday,” which is a made-up family tradition the girls + i started last winter. hygge (“hoo-ga”) is a Danish concept of slowing down, being snuggly homebodies, and spending time together. for us it usually involves pillow forts, pjs, homemade pastries, Jack Johnson radio, crafts, board games, minimal schoolwork and lots of cuddles.

today we branded and doctored our seven Texas Longhorn yearlings. this was a first for me and the kids; fortunately, Ray and my dad are a lot more familiar with rolling around in the mud
