FREE PATTERN: Pixelated Heart Blanket

I made this little blanket for my niece who is due next month.  My sister and her husband have chosen to decorate her nursery in turquoise and orange, so I wanted to give them something cute-but-not-too-cutesy to match.

Below is the pattern I wrote out when making this baby blanket. Use it with your own happy colors or to match baby’s nursery. Also, feel free to play around with the numbers to adjust the size to your liking.

CO 53 sts.
Rows 1-9: Knit.

Row 10: k7, p39, k7.

Row 11: Knit.

Repeat Rows 10 & 11 through Row 28.

Now you’ll begin working the chart in stockinette stitch, using your contrast color for the heart motif.  Stockinette stitch will keep the flat knit texture on the front of the blanket, with the bumpy purls on the back.  Remember to twist on the back when carrying yarn over multiple stitches.

Row 29: k12, chart in knit, k12.

Row 30: k7, p5, chart in purl, p5, k7.

Continue working chart in stockinette through Row 63.  Once done with the chart, you can break and fasten off the contrast yarn.

Row 64-77: Repeat Rows 10 & 11, starting with Row 11.

Rows 78-86: Knit.

Break off yarn and weave in tails.
