Take something old and make it new again.
Sort old t-shirts into a balanced color palette, get to ripping and wrapping, then crochet yourself a soft rag rug. There’s beauty in its unique imperfection. And the bulky texture of t-shirt yarn makes this a fun, quick project.

M A T E R I A L S
Approximately 80 to 100 yd upcycled t-shirt yarn
Size Q/15.75mm crochet hook, or other large size
P A T T E R N
Rnd 1: Chain 3, join with a sl st to form a ring. Ch 2 (counts as first hdc), 9 hdc in the center of the ring, sl st to join. (10 hdc)
Rnd 2: Ch 2, 1 hdc in same, 2 hdc in each st around, sl st to join in ch 2. (20 hdc)
Rnd 3: Ch 2, 1 hdc in same, 1 hdc in next, *2 hdc in next, 1 hdc* around, sl st to join in ch 2. (30 hdc)
Rnd 4: Ch 2, 1 hdc in same, hdc in next 2, *2 hdc in next, hdc in next 2* around, sl st to join in ch 2. (40 hdc)
Rnd 5: Ch 2, 1 hdc in same, hdc in next 3, *2 hdc in next, hdc in next 3* around, sl st to join in ch 2. (50 hdc)
Rnd 6: Ch 2, 1 hdc in same, hdc in next 4, *2 hdc in next, hdc in next 4* around, sl st to join in ch 2. (60 hdc)
Rnd 7: Ch 2, 1 hdc in same, hdc in next 5, *2 hdc in next, hdc in next 5* around, sl st to join in ch 2. (70 hdc)
Rnds 8 – desired size: Continue working in the round, following the pattern of increases allowing one more st between increases each round until you have reached your desired size. I worked 11 rounds to create a rug that’s 2 ft in diameter.
Pull the end through the last st and secure by weaving in with your fingers.
